His father, a fisherman by trade, taught him how to grow and trim bonsai tree. He also taught Miyagi the fighting art of karate. At a young age, Miyagi fell in love with a girl, Yukie, but her parents had arranged a marriage to someone else. Miyagi’s best friend, Sato, had also been taught karate by Miyagi’s father.
